PipeWire: State of the Union - George Kiagiadakis, Collabora
Wednesday July 9, 2025 13:35 - 14:05 CEST
PipeWire is a multimedia IPC framework that enables accessing media devices and bridging content between applications with a simple but powerful graph-based abstraction and built-in utilities. It has become the standard audio server on modern Linux systems, including AGL, also providing access to camera devices and screen-sharing services for Wayland compositors.

In this talk, George will present the current state of PipeWire development, highlighting notable features introduced in the last two major releases. He will cover advancements across audio processing, camera and video support, Bluetooth integration, and session management. The talk will also offer a sneak peek at upcoming features and ongoing efforts in the community, helping attendees understand where PipeWire is headed and how it continues to evolve as a core component of the Linux multimedia stack.

Screen Sharing in AGL Compositor - Marius Vlad, Collabora
Wednesday July 9, 2025 14:10 - 14:40 CEST
The talk is about familiarizing users with screen sharing / mirroring an output by using the PipeWire backend.

This feature was recently introduced along side the ability to load multiple backends at the same time, which made screen sharing possible with the PipeWire backend This talk describes older ways of screen sharinging with the RDP plug-in, how mirroring is implemented, how to configure it, and potentially explore remote desktop sharing using PipeWire backend instead of RDP or VNC.

The talk would also give a brief overview of the changes since the last talk in AGL AMM 2024 and finally discuss some of the highlights which would make/made it to Weston 15 as future development plans for the AGL project as well.

From Smartphones To Smart Cars: Lessons in Agility and Independence - Petteri Paasila, Seafarix
Wednesday July 9, 2025 14:45 - 15:15 CEST
Traditional OEMs are under pressure from fast, unconventional competitors, all within a volatile geopolitical environment. While many EV challengers will fade, a few will succeed - and could force legacy OEMs into failure or consolidation.

To survive and thrive, OEMs must focus on conversational AI, in-car productivity and entertainment, and monetizing digital experiences - critical elements for reinforcing brand value and reducing dependence on Big Tech.

Seafarix’s roots trace back to Nokia’s MeeGo program. Though our FOSS-based mobile OS didn’t succeed commercially, it taught us vital lessons now serving our automotive partners. Efficiency with limited resources, smart use of FOSS, and challenging outdated processes are essential for OEMs navigating today’s disruption.

In this new era, embracing a software-first mindset, AI integration, and new forms of partnerships is no longer optional - it’s survival.

Linux and MISRA Compliance: Mission Impossible? - Roberto Bagnara, BUGSENG and University of Parma
Wednesday July 9, 2025 16:20 - 16:50 CEST
Every time someone says “Linux can’t be made MISRA‑compliant,” chances are some misconceptions are at play about the nature, the objectives and the practice of the MISRA coding standards. This session shares a work‑in‑progress recipe for achieving meaningful, scoped MISRA coverage on selected kernel builds—enough to pass rigorous safety audits without carving the heart out of the code. We’ll show how lessons from our MISRA‑hardened Xen hypervisor are flowing upstream: pragmatic rule‑tailoring that fits open‑source culture, static‑analysis pipelines wired into Kconfig, and a yellow‑flag review lane that turns everyday patches into audit‑ready artifacts. You won’t leave with a magically compliant mainline, but you will see a practical roadmap for shipping Linux‑powered ECUs that ace the clipboard test. Come for the myth‑busting, stay for the war stories, steal the actionable checklist, and join the next sprint—because this mission is tough, but it’s definitely not impossible.

The Curse of Zonal Architecture - Yang Zhang, AutoCore.ai
Wednesday July 9, 2025 17:30 - 18:00 CEST
While Zonal architecture in cars today organizing electronic systems into zones, instead of having large number of discreet ECUs for each function, has shown benefits such as reducing wiring and weight, simplifying vehicle design as well as optimising BoM, these do not come free. In fact, Zonal architecture has largely traded simplicity in hardware design with increased complexity and design challenges in software - one that Automotive industry by and large is not familiar with but have to confront. We explore various challenges presented, discuss technology such as global determinism, E2E communications, as well as Network topology, silicon and IP support.
